Alexander Stalmatski, one of Prof. Buteyko's pupils,
took the Buteyko method to Australia in the early
1990s and showed the Australian medical profession
how the Buteyko method could revolutionise asthma treatment.
Clinical trials were carried out and clearly demonstrated the
benefits of the Buteyko method for asthmatics.
The method is now a widely accepted therapy in Australia and New Zealand.
Stalmatski brought the Buteyko method to the UK in 1996 and since then has
been treating asthma and training Buteyko practitioners.
Word of mouth soon spread culminating in a QED programme
on BBC Television in 1988, along with a series of newspaper
articles, showing that several adults and children being
treated with the method , gained considerable relief from their
symptoms and reduced their drug usage.
